Laundry Day

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while now but I wasn’t exactly sure if I wanted the world to see one of my working files in all it’s naked glory. It feels a little like I’m airing out my laundry. I decided to do it anyway because I thought it would be fun to show what goes into making one of these monster files. I want you all to know that I do take care in staying organized in building files and I try to stay on top of naming all of my layers, but sometimes it just gets away from you and then you end up with this..

First CGI project

You may see these posters/ads popping up here and there, it’s part of Seattle’s Best Coffee’s big re-branding effort. The campaign is produced by Creature, which is a very fine group of people.

Anyway, the challenge here was creating typography that looks like it has a rounded, tube-like form. After several tries working with highlights and shadows to make the illusion happen, I realized the only way of achieving this is to create the type in 3d and rendering it to create a real looking rounded feel. Here is one of the final posters along with a detail of where it started and where it ended up.

This months issue of Seattle Metropolitan features a cover story I worked on with Photographer by Charlie Schuck and Art Director Benjamin Purvis. It was a lot of work especially the trophy image (below), but it was worth it!

Hello friends! Here are some pictures I’ve been working on lately, in their natural habitat.

First we have some of the layouts featured in recent Avon brochures. Immediately following you can see two covers for Android and Blackberry app guides, recently published by T-Mobile. Last but not least we have a cover and some pages from two very excellent UK publications S Magazine and Wedding Magazine.

I’m excited about some new developments on the other side of the pond, over at SixtyOne Productions. They are launching a new division called SixtyOne Digital, a boutique retouching studio based in London. Needless to say, I’m flattered to be a part of their team of very talented retouchers.
